Justa Palacios y Mario Lanuza.
Guillermo, Jeannette, Marvin y Reyna.
Teresa Del Carmen Lanuza, 95, passed away peacefully at home in Daly City, California, surrounded by
her loving family. Teresa was born on August 31, 1929, in Granada, Nicaragua, to Justa Palacios and
Mario Lanuza. On November 11, 1949, she married Alberto Antonio Lopez, and together they had nine
children, eventually emigrating and settling in the Mission in San Francisco, California.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother; and a loyal
friend to all in need. Cooking and sharing Nicaraguan meals with her family and friends brought her
great joy, as did her volunteering at St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Hummingbirds and hydrangea flowers (“mil amores” in Spanish, “a thousand loves”) were among her
favorite things. She credited an elixir of two vibrant green and cobalt-feathered hummingbirds and
Vermouth, sought by her father, for curing an infected gland she had as a child. She carried her gratitude
for the small birds all her life.
She loved to laugh and was a seasoned storyteller, and devoted to her prayers. Every morning, she
prayed the rosary—praying for her family and for those in need of a prayer. She was preceded in death
by her two sons, Alberto, Jr. (1986) and Julio (2001), and is survived by her seven living children, Patricia,
Mario, Yvette, Guillermo, Jeannette, Marvin, and Reyna. Her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren will always keep her in their hearts and prayers and will miss her always.
