On the morning of Oct. 8, 2025, a 1955 Ford truck and Polaris quad were stolen from the house of a recently deceased resident of Virginia City. Storey County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified a suspect and conducted surveillance on his movements.

On Oct. 24, 2025 Storey County Sheriff’s Office detectives began visiting recent locations the suspect had been at. While on scene at one location in Lyon County, information was obtained that lead to the discovery of the stolen truck. The truck was located inside of a storage warehouse near the bottom of Six Mile Canyon Road in Lyon County, Nev.

Storey County Sheriff’s Office detectives worked with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and were able to successfully recover the truck. The suspect, identified as Wayne Wofford, was arrested by Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for possession of the stolen truck and booked into the Lyon County Detention Center.

The Ford truck was recovered and is being stored until family members can take possession. This is still an active case. The Storey County Sheriffs Office would like to thank the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for their expeditious response and assistance.
