Shirley M., daughter of Emil and Ruth (Hagel) Labs, was born in Waseca on July 29, 1945. She grew up in rural Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School in May, 1963. On June 29, 1963 she married LeRoy Rockman in Waterville. They built their home on Cannon Lake and raised their daughters there. During her working career Shirley was employed at the Faribault Daily News, Sheldahl, Hoffman Printing and Modern Printers.

Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed home canning, collecting glassware and figurines, and watching classic movies. She was always available to help a friend or family member in good times and bad. Above all she loved doing daycare for her grandsons when they were young and doted on them every chance she got, even when they returned home for visits from college. After her grandsons started school, she enjoyed volunteering for the Faribault Area Hospice and the Rice County Historical Society.

Shirley is survived by her husband, LeRoy; children, Renee Rockman of Faribault, Shelly Rockman (Brian Kuehn) of Owatonna; grandchildren, Carter Kuehn and Gannon Kuehn; sister, Selma Hendrickson of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Patricia Labs of Omaha, NE. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth (Duane) Volk, Ruth (Gene) Glende, Lillian Labs in childhood; brothers, Donald Labs, Martin (Doris) Labs, Fred (Lorraine) Labs, Bernard Labs; Emil and Clarence in infancy; brother-in-law Gene Hendrickson and sister-in-law Annetta Rockman Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Rice County Historical Society or donor’s choice.
