Clinton/ Wilmington, DE- Reyita Vicente Gallardo, 98, of Wilmington, DE (formally from Clinton, MA) passed away peacefully at the Brookdale Hockessin Assisted Living in Delaware on Sunday May 4, 2025. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Carlos Vicente Garcia, who died in 1972; and two of her grandchildren Seth Tull and Collin Murphy. She is survived by her daughter Nydia Kinderman & husband Donald of Wilmington, DE, her daughter Myrna Maggs and her husband Donald of Hampton, NH, her son, Carlos Vicente of Wilmington, DE, and her daughter Annette Murphy and her husband Thomas of Bellingham, MA. She leaves behind her youngest sister Amelia Vazquez of New York.

She was blessed with her beautiful grandchildren Jason Smart, Haly Ramirez, Jr., Jessica Zimovan, Kelly Mitchell, Jamie Maggs, Jeremy Vicente, Joshua Vicente, Carlie Vicente, Cole Murphy and Olivia Murphy; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; along with her loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and good friends.

Reyita was born and raised in Guayama, Puerto Rico to the late Diego Gallardo & Genoveva Delgado, to a family of 9 children. She married her husband Carlos in 1947 and resided in Puerto Rico while her husband was on military duty. She worked as a telephone operator for a telephone company in Puerto Rico. She crocheted and sewed as a hobby and took pride in making her children’s clothes. After her husband’s honorable discharge, they moved to Shirley, MA and then Lancaster, MA where they lived for 10 years. After her husband’s passing, Reyita settled in Clinton for 33 years, while she worked for many years at Van Brode and Nypro. She was a member and president of the Happy Friends Club in Clinton and loved to organize fundraisers, events, and outings with members, friends and family. She enjoyed Sunday Spanish Mass at St. Johns Church, bingo, gardening, listening to birds, yard sales and television Novelas. Known to her grandchildren as “Bita” she loved cooking and spending time with them; they brought her so much joy. Family famous for her Spanish food, rice and beans “arroz con gandules”, we took pleasure in our visits and enjoyed her cooking; she will be dearly missed.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10 until 11AM at Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, and a funeral mass at St. Johns Church in Clinton at 11:30 AM with burial to follow at St. Johns Cemetery.
