Pearson Spellman

Spellman, William Pearson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Pearson (Pearse) Spellman at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood on Saturday, October 25th, 2025.

Husband of Marion (Wallace) for over 56 years, loving father of Richard and daughter-in-law Christine, proud Grandpa of granddaughters Sarah and Margot, who were the light of his life. He was predeceased by parents Katherine and William Spellman.

Pearson was born in Kirkland Lake on July 2nd, 1941, and lived 82 happy years in Stayner, the town he loved.

Pearson made friends easily. As an employee at GE Electric, IGA and in his career as Treasurer of the Town of Stayner, he collected friends. He sat on council but stepped down to accept his position with the town. He also sat on the cemetery board for years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working as the shuttle driver at Mike Jackson GM in Collingwood, talking to some, listening to all.

Pearson loved sports. In early years he played and coached hockey, curled, and played baseball. He was one of the initiators of Stayner Siskins. You would find him every Thursday night at the arena, leaning on the upper rail with the rest of the gang, watching the Siskins.

In 2000, he survived 2 open heart surgeries, and ended his career with the town but not his friendships. Most recently, he enjoyed Friday morning coffees with “the boys”. He was happy and content with his family, friends and four-legged friends.

Pearson had a dry sense of humour. He was loved, and he will be greatly missed by his family.

Pearson will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Stayner Union Cemetery.

A Celebration of life will be held at the Stayner Community Centre, 277 Regina Street, Stayner on Sunday November 2, 2025 from 1 to 3 p.m. Words of remembrance at scheduled for 1:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

The family is grateful for the support received from Dr. Gandhi, CGM Hospital, Homecare, and Campbell House. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation
