Joan A. Kurtz, 93, of Parkersburg passed away October 24, 2025 at Cedar Grove Assisted Living. She was born June 27, 1932, a daughter to the late Clayton C. and Rachel E. Rollins (Morlan). Joan was a graduate of Camden Clark School of Nursing and served as a school nurse for Wood County BOE for over 21 years, retiring from nursing while at Parkersburg South High School. Joan was also a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church and was active in the family ministries there. In her free time, she was an avid swimmer and tennis player, and loved keeping her flower garden.
Surviving Joan is her husband of 72 years Harry Kurtz; son David Kurtz (Anna) of Victor, WV; daughter Kimberly Carr (Dan); grandchildren Halley Kurtz (Rob Rexroad) of Knoxville, TN and Kyle Hinton (Sara) of Chagrin Falls, OH; step-grandchildren D. Aaron Carr of Buffalo, WV and Alicia Dearth (Josh) of Belleville, WV; and 4 step-great-grandchildren Jackson, Jayden, Jordan, and Jansen Dearth.
Along with her parents , she is preceded in death by her brothers James, Thomas, Robert and Clayton Rollins; and sisters Dorothy Robinson and Eleanor “Jean” Jarvis.
A visitation time for Joan will be held Tuesday, October 28, at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg from 5-8pm. A private burial for Joan at Mt. Olivet Cemetery will take place at a later time.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s honor to Camden Clark Foundation, 800 Garfield Avenue, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Cedar Grove Assisted Living and Housecalls Hospice for their tremendous care of Joan.
