Norman Engman
- June 4, 2025

Norman Ray Engman, known affectionately as Norm to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on May 2, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, Norm’s life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and joy that touched everyone he knew. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Norm’s journey began in the heartland of America, where his character was shaped by the values of hard work and community. He attended the Missouri Military Academy, where he developed a strong sense of discipline and leadership. His educational path continued at Drake University, setting the stage for a successful career in business. Norm joined forces with his brothers at EMCO Manufacturing Company, where he became known for his charismatic salesmanship and unwavering belief in their products. His colleagues would often say that Norm’s smile and charm could light up a room and make even the toughest customers feel like old friends.
Beyond his professional life, Norm was a man of many interests. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, and an enthusiastic card player, with poker games with the guys being a particular highlight. However, Norm’s greatest passion was for his family. He was a pillar of strength and love for his devoted wife of 71 years, Betty Lou. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and shared moments that are now precious memories.
Norm’s spirit lives on through his beloved daughter, Stacie Engman of Boca Raton, Florida; his daughter-in-law Kathy Engman of Loxahatchee, Florida; his sisters-in-law Esther Engman of Palm Springs, California, Shari Engman of Des Moines, Iowa, and Cari Lefkow of Phoenix, Arizona; his grandchildren Shannon Engman (Angela) and Jason Joyce (Bonny), both of Des Moines, Iowa; and his great-grandchildren Samantha Engman and Jasper Joyce, also of Des Moines. His extended family of nieces and nephews spread across the country will fondly remember their Uncle Norm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and Sam Engman, his brothers Milton, Jerry, Stanley, and Larry, his favorite brother-in-law Allan Lefkow, and his sons James and Steven.
Generous, loving, and friendly, Norm was the epitome of someone who succeeded in making life easier and more joyful for others. His generosity knew no bounds, and his loving nature made him a friend to all.
As we bid farewell to Norman Ray Engman, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The graveside service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mount Sinai Cemetery, located at 24210 North 68th Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85054.
