NHP: One dead, multiple people injured in US-50 West crash

UPDATE 6:05 PM: Nevada Highway Patrol has confirmed one fatality in the crash Sunday afternoon on US-50 West in Carson City. Two were taken by air ambulance, two were taken by ground ambulance with one reported fatality. The Nevada Highway Patrol, region two Traffic Homicide Unit, is investigating the crash.
The number two westbound travel lane is currently closed. NHP also expects intermittent full closures of westbound US50 over the next 2 hours. If possible please avoid the area and be vigilant for first responders.
UPDATE 5:37PM: A two vehicle crash on U.S. 50 West at Carson City mile marker 5 Sunday afternoon injured at least four people, sending three to the hospital via Care Flight and one by ambulance, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Originally reported at around 4 p.m. to Carson City Sheriff’s Dispatch as a vehicle crash involving a bicycle rider, there was not a bicycle rider involved, said NHP Sgt. Chris Brown. The crash involved two vehicles, with two people ejected, he said.
The westbound lane of Highway 50 west has been closed for a few hours. The closure is intermittent, said Brown.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department, sheriff’s deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Sunday afternoon to a vehicle crash in the westbound lane of Highway 50 West near Golf Club Drive.
The crash was originally reported as a bicycle crash with a vehicle. Carson City Dispatch advised to CCFD that it was inundated with 911 calls and that CPR was being done on a patient.
The vehicle crash was reported by a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief who was responding to what was originally reported as a bicycle incident.
Carson City Fire Department had reported up to five patients at one point.
Multiple ambulances were ordered to the scene and Care Flight air ambulances were ordered to the nearby Park and Ride. Highway 50 westbound traffic was closed at the junction of South Carson Street, US-50 West and Highway 395 for the air ambulances to land. It re-opened at 4:43 p.m. but the westbound lane has since shut down as part of the crash investigation.
East Fork and Tahoe Douglas agencies also responded.
The crash comes after Carson City Fire Department was called to a motorcycle crash at around 1:20 p.m. near the area of US-50 West and Golf Club Drive. The patient was flown by Care Flight to Renown.
