Michael George Schukies

September 23, 1947 – May 31, 2025

Michael was born on September 23, 1947 to Frank J. Schukies and Dorothy La Fleur Schukies in Oak Park, Illinois.  The family then moved to Westchester, Illinois where he attended Divine Infant Elementary school and St. Joseph’s High School.  After High School he attended Loyola University, Chicago Campus.  

In February, 1970 he enlisted in the Army National Guard for a term of 6 years.  He was Honorably discharged on Feb. 16, 1976.  While in the National Guard, he achieved the qualification of expert marksmanship for rifle, earning an Expert Badge.  In1971, Mike started working at the Internal Revenue Service, where he held many positions over his 40 years employment.  He retired in Oct. 2010.

In 1989 he married Danise Wilt, who also worked at the IRS.  In 1995 they had a daughter, Michaela.

In his spare time, Mike enjoyed bowling in the IRS league, playing fast pitch, golfing, bike riding, but most of all his favorite activity was playing catch with Michaela and helping to coach her various softball teams from age 8 through high school.

Mike is survived by his wife of 36 years, Danise, his daughter Michaela (Brian), his brother Robert (Chris), sister-in-law Darlene Kreiter, brother-in-law David Wilt, nephews Jarrett (Julie) Smith, Steve Smith, Jason (Megan) Wilt, Josh Wilt, nieces Kristie (Bryan) Kiel, Ashley Wilt and several great nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Dorothy Schukies and his sister Marlys Smith.

Memorial Visitation Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago with a Memorial Service to held that afternoon at 2 p.m.  For funeral info call 773-736-3833.
