William “Bill” Bredemeyer
William “Bill” W. Bredemeyer, 99, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at his home. He was born on November 24, 1925, in Springfield, IL, to A.F. Walter and Viola H. Treat Bredemeyer. He married the love of his life, Victoria V. Titone on July 9, 1949, and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2022.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Marie (Michael) Patterson of Springfield, Mary Kathleen (Mark J.) Hocking of Washington, IL and Karen Louise (Michael) Workman of Springfield; five sons, John Michael (Jennifer) Bredemeyer of Roseville, CA, William David (Stacey) Bredemeyer of Springfield, Michael Joseph (Georganne) Bredemeyer of Springfield, David Paul Bredemeyer of Chandler, AZ and James Joseph (Crystal Kitchens) Bredemeyer of Springfield; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Victoria; sisters, Viola Ackley and Herta Ramey; brothers, Gustave “Gene”, Emil “Doc” and Arthur Rudolph Bredemeyer.
Bill was a United States Navy veteran having served during WWII. Some of the medals and decorations he received from his service are: American Campaign Medal, Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and the Philippines Liberation Medal. He retired in 1977 from the Springfield Fire Department, where he dutifully served as Battalion Chief.
He was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church; was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association as well as the IBPAT (Painter’s Union); and the Catholic Golden Age.
Visitation: 9:30 – 11:00 am, Monday, June 9, 2025, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. The rosary will be prayed beginning at 9:00 am.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Monday, June 9, 2025, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with Reverend George Nellikunnel officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church or to Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
