Mary Jane Nyquist (affectionately known as ‘Janie’), aged 80, passed away peacefully on February 18th, 2025 in her hometown of Lindsborg, KS. She was born on September 25th, 1944, in Lindsborg, KS, to LeMar and Mary Peterson.

She was an avid Jayhawk fan, and proud of her Lindsborg roots. She married Robert Nyquist on August 28th, 1964, at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, KS. She served many famous Jayhawks as a bank teller in Lawrence, before focusing on family, and being a paraeducator in Marquette later on.

Janie was unforgettable, and if you knew her, you loved her. Her infectious laugh, and her undying love for her family defined her. Janie lit up every room she entered, and every person she talked to.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; two sisters, Diane (Sam) Griffin and Linda Jenkins; children Mark (Stacey) Nyquist, Mary (John) Crader, and Matthew (Tara) Nyquist; grandchildren Nathan and Macy Nyquist; Molly, Maddy, and Jack Crader; Sydney, Aidric, and Evelyn Nyquist.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Clyde Jenkins.

Family, friends, and others are invited to Crick-Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg, KS from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on March 14th, 2025 for visitation.

Funeral service will be at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. on March 15th, 2025 to celebrate the life of Janie Nyquist.
