Mary Higgins

Mary Joan Higgins, age 68, passed away June 7, 2025.

Mary had many lifelong friends from 1st- 8th grade at St. Angela class of ‘71, Mother Theodore Guerin H.S. and University of Illinois, Champaign. She had a long career with Marshall Field & Company, starting as a stock girl at 15 years of age and becoming a Department Manager after U of I graduation. Mary’s career reached its pinnacle when she was promoted, First Female Buyer of Men’s Dress Shirts, in the more than 100-year history of Marshall Field’s. She went on to buy for Sportmart, Wigwam/Duofold and American Hotel. Mary later received a degree in special education from Dominican University and pursued a career in education. Mary cared for her nieces and nephews and cheered them on in all their endeavors. Mary loved her family and friends and would attend every play, game or school event.

Beloved daughter of the late James and Winifred; Cherished sister of Helen (Michael) Kelly, Maureen, Margaret (Brian) Barry, Thomas, Kathleen (Darren) Ferris, and the late James Jr.; Loving Aunt of Jack (Corrine) Barry, Phil (Nia) Kelly, Molly (Matt) Bragg, Tess (Vih) Ferreira, Annie (Noah) Halpern, Jack, Mary Catherine Kelly and Emily Ferris; Great Aunt to Allie and Rosie Bragg and Cillian Barry.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday June 26, 2025, at St. Mary of the Woods Church, 6955 N. Hiawatha Ave., Chicago. Interment private. Arrangements entrusted to Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. For info, 773-736-3833.
