Marcella Bonnell 91, of Mendota passed away peacefully on August 8,2025, at Allure in Mendota. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family. Visitation will be Saturday, August 16, in Holy Cross Catholic Church from 9am until 11. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 with Rev. Joseph Domfe officiating, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Marcella was born February 20,1934, in Sublette to John and Leafy (Gehant) Malach. She graduated from Mt. St. Clare High School in Clinton, Iowa. Marcella married Allen C. Bonnell at Our Lady of Perpetual Care Church on September 20, 1958. Marcella, known affectionately to many as “Sal’ or Sally”, was a devoted member of Holy Cross Church, where she participated in St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Sodality and Church Women United. She gave generously of her time as a volunteer for eucharistic adoration, church cleaning, the choir, bake sales, and lighting candles for those in need. She was a proud member of the Hospital Auxiliary, where she devoted more than 30 years delivering Meals on Wheels bringing nourishment, kindness, and a friendly smile to countless residents of Mendota. She was an avid walker, a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and a loving presence to all who knew her. Above all else, Sal cherished time with her family and friends, many who remain to cherish her memory.

She will be forever missed by her husband Allen of Mendota, daughter JoEllyn (Steve) Gahan of Mendota, son Stephen (Monica) Bonnell of Brentwood, TN.,grandchildren: Evan Gahan, Kennedy (Aidan Rockarts) Gahan, Olivia (Tyler) Zwierzchowski, Cecilia Bonnell and Sophia Bonnell. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon Malach. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Gabrielle, 2 brothers: James and Thomas Malach, 3 sisters: Jane Dillenburg, Frances Powers, Claudia Fruin, and a brother in infancy, Billy. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers: Ellen Jones, Tish Eddy and Joan Eichorn. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Area Senior Services-M.A.S.S.
