MANUEL LACANARIA

Manuel Lacanaria, lovingly known by many names—Manny, Mancino, Junior, June, Jr. Boy, Handy Manny, and Uncle Bondo Bondo—was born on March 23, 1947, in Waipahu, Hawaii, to Jose Lacanaria and Rose Cruz. He was the sixth of twelve children and the first-born son in a large and loving family. He spent most of his childhood in Aiea, Hawaii, and proudly graduated with the Class of 1965.

On June 1, 2025, Manuel peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Of all the titles he held in life, his proudest was “Dad.” A God-fearing man known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering word, Manuel was a pillar of integrity and love.

His six children were his greatest accomplishment—the pride and joy of his life. After years of hard work, he never turned down a good karaoke session, a chance to critique a concrete job, or the opportunity to share advice on the healing powers of garlic, ginger, or coconut oil.

Manuel was the life of the party. He loved to dance, laugh, and gather with his family and friends. He wouldn’t want this day to be filled with sadness—he wasn’t a sad person. He would want each of us to remember him with a smile, to know how proud he was of us, and to carry his joy forward.

He is survived by his beloved siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews—all of whom carry pieces of his spirit with them.

Though he leaves this earthly life, we take comfort in knowing exactly where he’s going. And as he always did, he’ll save us a seat.

Until we meet again—rest easy, our sweet father.
