Jerry Lynn Walker, age 80, passed away on July 25, 2025, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, after a long, brave, fight with dementia. He left this life with the same strength and quiet dignity that defined his years, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on October 24, 1944, in Spanish Fork, Utah, he was raised in Pleasant Grove, a community he would come to serve and cherish throughout his life. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where he was an active student-athlete—running track, playing football and baseball. He also served as a class officer, demonstrating early on the leadership qualities that would shape his life.
Lynn built a remarkable career rooted in hard work and integrity. He worked for Gibbons and Reed for an impressive 47 years, becoming the youngest superintendent in the company’s history. Later, he continued his commitment to public service by working for Pleasant Grove City as the Public Works Director for 14 years. His contributions extended beyond his job title—he served as Strawberry Days Chairman, Grand Marshall for Strawberry Days and on the Pleasant Grove City Council, always striving to improve the lives of those around him. His expertise was instrumental during the Flood of ’83 in Salt Lake City; he later applied that knowledge to design a flood diversion system along 5th North in Pleasant Grove, that protected countless homes by directing water into the canal.
His civic involvement also included serving on the North Utah County Water Conservancy Board—a testament to his deep concern for infrastructure and community well-being.
Faith played an active role in Lynn’s life. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as Elder Quorum President, a Bishopric member, a High Councilor, and as a beloved Gospel Doctrine teacher. His spiritual leadership left a lasting impression on many.
Lynn’s love for Pleasant Grove ran deep. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Pleasant Grove High School sports and could often be found cheering his grandchildren and great grandchildren from the sidelines. Halloween held a special place in his heart—Each year, Lynn transformed his yard into a spook alley and delighted hundreds of trick-or-treaters with full-sized candy bars and hot spiced punch, providing a safe place for families to celebrate. He also took great pride in his home and yard; his meticulous care earned him multiple “Yard of the Month” honors over the years.
Music brought Lynn great joy throughout his life. He especially loved singing with his brothers in various settings—a tradition that created cherished memories for both family and friends.
Above all else, Lynn was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife Linda; five children: Lesli Walker, Kwin (Heidi) Walker, Jelynn (Kelly) Sanderson, Camalee (Deon) Giles, and Joelle (Ryan) Levin; 22 grandchildren; more than 63 great-grandchildren; and siblings Robert Walker, Steve Walker, and Marda Walker. .
He is preceded in death by his parents; his eldest son Darin; and five great-grandchildren.
May Lynn’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him—and may his legacy live on through acts of service, devotion to family, love for community, and joy in life’s simple celebrations.
In honor of Lynn’s love for nature and gardening, those wishing to pay tribute are invited to bring a perennial plant to his home, to be added to “Lynn’s Forest Garden,” —a living tribute to a life well-lived.
