In Loving Memory of Luis “Louie” Aquino Evangelista
Louie was a true gentle giant whose presence brought warmth and comfort to everyone who needed him. To say he was a good man would be an understatement. He had a quiet strength that never asked for attention, yet he always showed up when it mattered most. His wisdom was steady and unpretentious. His intelligence was worn lightly, and his words were often laced with gentle humor and thoughtful care.
Louie was always ready to listen and offer advice when asked, helping others without ever needing thanks. He lived by example, showing us that goodness doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.
To his nephews and grandniece who grew up around him-Robin, and Amaya, whom he lovingly cared for while her parents were working-and to Josef Shalom, Tito Louie was like magic, always doting on them. He spoiled them in the best ways-with treats, surprises, time, and unconditional love. To his grandnephews who visited from afar-Malik and Mateo-he made their childhoods feel like home.
Louie reminded all of us what truly matters: kindness, decency, and love. His memory lives on in every small act of generosity, every gentle laugh, and in the love he gave so freely. Though our hearts are heavy, we are deeply grateful for the time we shared with him.
Luis Aquino Evangelista was born in Manila on August 16, 1956, to his parents Greg, who passed in 1998, and Lily, who passed very recently in June. He was predeceased by his younger siblings, Vicky and Raul. His only surviving sibling is his elder sister, Sylvia. He began his formal education at Don Bosco in Manila and completed his Master’s in Finance at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
He passed unexpectedly in Pacifica in the early morning of Thursday, July 10, 2025. In his final moments, he held his beloved wife’s hand and expressed, “I love you, Mahal Ko,” one last time.
Louie leaves in mourning his devoted wife, Teresita Laya-Evangelista (Tecy), who loves him deeply and grieves with aching grace. Their love story began in 1995, blossomed into a proposal in 1997, and they tied the knot on April 18, 1998, at the Church of the Epiphany in beautiful San Francisco. They strolled through life hand in hand, always loving and looking out for each other.
Together, they traveled the world one adventure at a time. Their last journey was a Marian pilgrimage in October 2024-a fitting farewell that witnessed their shared love for Mary, Our Blessed Mother.
Louie and Tecy shared a passion for the performing arts, often attending Broadway shows, operas, and even pop concerts. He was smitten with her cooking-no vegetables, please-and not just because it meant he didn’t have to cook. She patiently indulged his K-drama obsession, even when it meant losing sleep over cliffhangers. Eventually, she found a few favorites of her own. He still didn’t eat his veggies.
Louie leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness, along with a lifetime of cherished memories. Amaya says she misses her Lolo. And Bebe, their dog-child of 18 years, still wonders why Dad hasn’t returned home.
Rest in eternal peace, dear Louie.
You were one of the truly good souls.
May our Mama Mary now lead you into the embrace of her Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and into God’s eternal kingdom.
