Lois Brown, 88, of Pittsford, NY died peacefully at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Webster on June 24, 2025.
Born on August 28, 1936, to Barton and Carrie Stiles of Coldwater, NY, Lois spent her childhood working and playing on her parent’s farm and attending the one-room school at the corner of Buffalo and Elmgrove Roads. She graduated from Churchville High School in 1954 and married Gerald Brown of Rochester soon after. The young couple began their 49-year adventure together earning education degrees from Brockport State Teachers College, and Michigan State University, and then teaching at Washington Irving School in Gates.
In 1963, Lois gave birth to the first of her three sons, Jeffrey, followed by Jim in 1965 and Jerry in 1967. Lois put her work as a teacher on hold to raise her boys and support her husband, who had by this time begun a long career at Eastman Kodak. The family moved from Gates to Pittsford in 1975, and then to London, England for 3 years, which served as a launch point for numerous trips around the UK, Europe, and beyond. Lois was a passionate world traveler and would light up telling tales of the many journeys she and Jerry enjoyed together.
A fiercely proud and devoted mom, adoring grandmother, and loving wife, Lois was well loved by her immediate and extended family and will be missed by all the many friends, neighbors, colleagues, and acquaintances whose lives she touched.
Predeceased by her parents, Barton and Carrie; her brothers, Herbert and Howard; her sister, Marian; and her husband, Gerald. Lois is survived by her three sons and their partners, Jeff (Shana), Jim (Helen), and Jerry (Angie); eight grandchildren, Jenny (Elliot) Lang, Simon Marmura Brown, Phoebe Marmura, Jack Brown, Ethan Brown, Lucas Brown, Angus Brown, Fiona Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Lang and Greta Lang.
Lois’ family would like to thank the Maplewood Nursing Home for the excellent care and love they provided and her special home care givers, Keisha and Yolander who became part of her family.
Friends and family are invited to come to calling hours on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave, Rochester). Memorial service will follow on site at 4:00 pm. Lois’ life will be further celebrated at a light dinner reception at Monroe’s Restaurant, 3001 Monroe Avenue, immediately following the service. There will be a private family burial on a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lois’ name can be made to Camp Good Days and Special Times
