Lisa Murphy

Lisa Sue Murphy, 64, passed away at John Muir Hospital on February 4, 2024 with her family by her side.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Herman (“Patrick”) Lifly Murphy and her mother, Vera Kasloff Murphy.

Lisa was born November 7, 1959 in Concord, California. She graduated from Concord High School in Concord,

California in 1977. She attended Diablo Valley College and later Maui Community College, Maui, Hawaii. She

had a certificate in Avian Studies and fostered and raised exotic birds, and used her Certificate in Dog

Grooming for fostering and rescuing dogs for non-profit organizations. Among her other interests were stage

acting, singing, playing bass guitar, riding motorcycles, studying the Bible, and caregiving of disabled persons.

She moved to Southern California and worked as broadcaster for a radio station and a television station KCET

with the likes of Huell Hauser. After she moved back to Northern California for a time, she then relocated to

Maui, Hawaii. She worked at the Hawaii Nature Center, Maui, Hawaii for a time as a guide and groundskeeper.

Lisa married Hanalei (Henry) Akima in Maui in 2007. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2023.

After retiring, she worked part time at Home Depot in the garden department, where she enjoyed her work in

the nursery department caring for plants while enjoying gardening as a hobby at home.

Over the years she attended family reunions in Chuckatuck and Suffolk and surrounding areas of Virginia, with

her father Herman (“Pat”). There she met uncles, aunts and cousins. Preceding her in death are Charles Gray

Adams, III, Shirley Daniels, aunts and uncles Susie Murphy Daniels, Dolly Daniels, Eunice Murphy, Alice

Murphy Richardson, and Kathryn Murphy Adams, Kathryn’s husband Charles Gray Adams. Also preceding her

in death are her uncles John and Michael Kasloff, Aunts Mary Kasloff Weathersby, and Dorothy Kasloff

LeMay, cousin Marsha LeMay-Jenkins and other aunts, uncles and cousins. Cousin Glenda Adams Holcomb

passed away on February 25, 2024.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother Gregory I. Murphy, (wife Andrea), nephews Gregory A. Murphy,

Trevor Murphy, Lisa’s brother Patrick Jeffrey Murphy, (wife Guadalupe AKA “Lupe”), nieces Michelle Vera

Murphy (husband Savaughn Bravo), Victoria Eden Murphy, Karen Zeppa (husband Mark Davis), and sister

Laura Murphy Celis (husband Salvador Celis). Her cousins also include Mitchell Daniels, Michael Kasloff

(wife Carmen), Joel Salfen (wife Margaret), Barbara LeMay Martin, Donnie Holcomb, and other cousins,

nieces, and nephews.

Lisa’s family will be holding a celebration of her life on March 30, 2024 at 2pm in Concord, California. If you
