Lionel Henry “Chubby” Chapman, age 86, of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2025, at Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle. He was born on July 10th, 1938, in Welch Pole, Bethel Town, Westmoreland, Jamaica.
Lionel, affectionately known as “Chubby” to family and friends, was a retired Operations Manager who dedicated his time to supporting numerous charities throughout his life. He found great joy in tending to his garden, planting flowers, and was an avid cricket and baseball fan.
Chubby will be remembered as a kind and giving man, known for his meticulous nature and his love for neatness and order. Though often reserved and quiet, he had a soft spot for his grandchildren, showering them with care and affection.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Chapman; his four children – Linda, Wayne, Tracey, Greg and two stepchildren; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two siblings. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Chapman.
His favorite saying was, “You kidding!”
A funeral service to celebrate Lionel’s life will be held June 21st, 2025, at the Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Chapel at 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY 10805.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children (Supporter Number 10306157-029400) in his memory.
