Kim Rogers

Kim Russel Rogers, 68, of Glendale, AZ, left this Earth and entered into the next phase of his spiritual journey in the afternoon of Thursday, June 19, 2025. Kim was born on July 4, 1956 in Malad, Idaho to Elaine L and Russel Rogers, of Pocatello, Idaho. Kim was their first born and was a “beautiful baby” according to his Aunt Kathy. He loved celebrating his birthdays in Idaho as a child, on the 4th of July, with all of the fireworks, which he of course, as a child, thought were to celebrate his birthday.

Kim was raised in Pocatello, attending Pocatello High School and Idaho State University. While in school Kim was on the track team, wrestled and played football. He also played Little League baseball. He loved sports but his big passion was music and technology. He attended Idaho State University to study laser engineering and then completed a mission for his church in Leeds, England, for two years, which was one of the highlights of his life. At the end of his mission he moved to southern California to pursue a career in lasers with corporate America, like Hughes Aerospace, and although he did enjoy working for these companies, he decided to go out on his own to become a laser consultant and repairman. He had a very diverse clientele, which he enjoyed. He traveled the world as a consultant. He also loved inventing, which led him to design and build his own lasers.

After several years, he decided that he wanted to combine his two greatest passions, music and lasers. He started building his DJ business, known as Starcom Entertainment and innovated a new persona known to the DJ industry as “DJ Dr Drax”. He continued his laser company, but his love was his DJ career. He put on spectacular events with laser light shows in California, with music and dancing. He became known to people in Arizona and started bringing his events to Arizona. This is how he met his wife, Jan. They eventually married after dating for five years and he moved to Arizona. He had no children of his own, but became the patriarch of Jan’s family. He is survived by his wife, Jan; step-daughter Jill Shumway (Jim); step-son Chris Hilderbrand; grandchildren Chelsea Hilderbrand (Ben); Austin Hilderbrand; Piper Hilderbrand; Joshua Shumway; Brittani Mann; Steven Mann; great grandson Jarid Shumway and two sisters; Kristie Berezay; Karalee Robinson (John), and one brother; Darren Rogers (Byron). Also multiple nieces and nephews who adored him. Another huge love of Kim’s were his 3 cats. He rescued a mother cat and her kittens and they became family. The last one passed just two weeks after Kim did, at age 17- Kim couldn’t be in Heaven long without his Sophie by his side.

Drax became President and eventual owner of a trade association for DJs called the American Disc Jockey Association, better known as the ADJA. His goal was to educate and support DJs, in which he did a great job. At his passing he had thousands of tributes and the love and respect of “Drax” was overwhelming. He deserved it because he dedicated himself to lifting the industry by giving all of his time to helping DJs with technology, insurance issues, business plans and sometimes just as a sounding board. Despite the industry he was in, he always maintained his strong morals, values and integrity. He was a great friend and peer to many. He was a leader and a Rockstar in every sense of the word.

On a more domestic level there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix, he had a tool for everything and the knowledge to fix it. He built many things and loved woodworking, metal working, brick work, auto repair, electrical repair and always had a project going or in the planning stages. Kim was raised by remarkable parents, his father taught him great work ethics and a love of the outdoors. His mother taught him a love of the holidays and family. Kim’s favorite places were Disneyland, Yellowstone, Tetons, the Blue Ridge Parkway and camping. He loved sharing these places with his grandchildren, and they loved it too. He was truly a Renaissance man. Kim/Drax will be deeply missed, his absence has left a huge void in the lives of many people. His legacy will continue through his grandchildren and the ADJA.

Lastly, and most importantly, Kim knew he was a child of God. His faith and testimony of Jesus Christ was unwavering and his spirit exemplified this through his actions in the physical world. He would give anyone the shirt off of his back and help anyone in need, without giving it a second thought. He showed grace and patience in times when many wouldn’t and always gave people the benefit of the doubt and second chances. He was a force to be reckoned with in standing his ground on his morals and beliefs and you always knew where he stood on things. We know his spirit lives on and that he was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Christ for his fulfilled duties and love he showed here on Earth.

Services will be private and will be held at a later date. With his love for cats, please feel free to make a donation in his honor to a shelter of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family online at heritagefuneralchapels.com.
