Kati McDermott
- March 3, 2025

It’s with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kati Ann McDermott on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity and an unwavering commitment to helping others realize their potential.
Kati Ann was born on November 8th, 1969, in Berkeley CA, the third of four children born to Mary Jo and Michael McDermott. She grew up and attended school in Moraga. After graduating from Carondelet High School in 1987, Kati Ann attended Arizona State University.
Kati Ann had several careers over the years, and most included some type of teaching or coaching. Her passion and personal success in swimming when she was young led to her most loved and final career at Orinda Aquatics.
She had a profound impact on the lives of countless young swimmers, known for her ability to tap into their untapped potential and help them reach new heights. She would often tell stories of swimmers who exceeded her expectations as well as their own. The pool deck is where she felt most at home, and she dedicated much of her time to nurturing the next generation of swimmers with passion, dedication and care. Her coaching extended far beyond technique-she inspired her swimmers to believe in themselves and their abilities.
Above all, Kati Ann adored her job, the swimmers she coached and the families and friendship she made on the pool deck.
In addition to her career in swimming, Kati had a deep love for creating-jewelry, personalized art and unique gifts. She poured her heart into each project, crafting thoughtful gifts for friends and family that reflected her caring nature. She was known for her generosity, always finding ways to brighten the lives of those around her with small, meaningful gestures.
Kati Ann is survived by her parents Mary Jo and Michael McDermott, her sisters Nicole Cassidy (Michael), Traci Miller (Michael) and her brother Michael McDermott (Annie) along with her seven nieces and nephews (Andrew, Madelyn, Paige, Jack, Nicholas, Ella and Hannah). She also left behind her beloved dog Jojo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kati Ann’s memory to:
