Karen Denise McCarter, 67 of Sevierville, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 13, 2025. Leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. A proud member of the Knoxville Rescue Squad, Karen was deeply committed to helping others and took great pride in her work there. She spent seven devoted years as a caregiver for her mother, a testament to her compassionate and selfless nature.
Karen’s professional life was as diverse as it was accomplished—working as both a realtor and in the telecommunications field, where she built strong relationships and a reputation for hard work and integrity.
She cherished time outdoors, especially camping trips with family, and found great joy in visits to the beach. Karen had a special love for Christmas, always bringing warmth and light to the season through her beautiful decorating. Her dogs held a special place in her heart, and she found comfort and joy in their companionship.
Karen will be remembered for her generous spirit, her love of family, and her ability to make those around her feel cared for and valued. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jackie Smith; sister, Angela Smith-Miller; in-laws, Richard and Blanche Wright; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Adron McCarter.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Wright; son, Courtney McCarter (Pamalyn); daughter, Amanda Cole (Ricky); grandchildren, Austin McCarter (Abigail), Kinsley McCarter, Rylie and Cayden McKenzie, Schylar Cole (Bri), Trevar Cole (Kaley), Trynity Cole, and Cayleb Cole; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Lilah McCarter, Everly, Ruby, and Theodore Cole; sister, Jani McCarter-Haven (Jim); brother, Robert Smith (Tina); and several other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Monday, October 20, 2025, with service to follow at 7PM in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour. Family and friends will meet in Atchley’s Seymour Memory Gardens Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for a 10AM graveside service and interment with Pastor Tim Tallent officiating.
