Jean Smilie

Ms. Jean H. Smilie, age 91, of Citrine Court, Ellijay, passed away on Thursday, July 24th, 2025.

Jean was born August 23rd, 1933, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Hubert and Ruth Hawkins. Jean attended Auburn University. She was active in her church, Ellijay First United Methodist. She was an advocate for the National Alliance on Mental illness and those it serves. Jean represented Gilmer County on the Highland Rivers Community Service Board, volunteered at the Gilmer County Library, and was a member for many years in the Garden Club of Ellijay. She enjoyed reading, bridge and traveling. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert S. Smilie, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025 from the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with Rev. Dr. Mike Shearon officiating. Interment was held in the Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens in Montgomery, Alabama.

Donations to Ellijay First United Methodist or NAMI of Gilmer, Pickens, and Fannin County are requested in lieu of flowers.
