A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of Jamey Hochstein, age 43, of Jeffers, will be held Wednesday, July 23rd, at 10:30 AM at the Jeffers United Methodist Church in Jeffers. Burial will be in Jeffers Cemetery in Jeffers.
A visitation for Jamey will be held on Tuesday, July 22nd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the Jeffers United Methodist Church in Jeffers for one hour prior to the service.
Jamey Lee Hochstein was born Dec. 9, 1981, to Kevin and Donna (Hansen) Hochstein in Worthington, MN. His early years were spent in the rural Jeffers and Storden areas before moving to Windom at age 7 with his mom. However, his passion for the farm and agriculture remained a very big part of his life.
After moving to Windom, he enjoyed playing baseball, from elementary school through high school, and attending area races with his dad. In high school, he was active in FFA, earning his State Degree and being named Star Chapter Greenhand and later Star Chapter Agribusiness.
While in high school, Jamey began working with the Farm Service Agency-Cottonwood County. After graduating from Windom Area High School in 2000, he continued working at the FSA office while completing work toward an Associate in Applied Science degree in Agriculture Business at Minnesota West in Worthington, which he received in 2002. He worked as a program technician at the FSA for nearly 25 years before planning to retire this year.
In 2003, Jamey married Anna Smith. They were blessed with a son, Wilson, before they later divorced.
He enjoyed annual family trips to Eagle Nest Lodge on Lake Winnebigoshish in Northern Minnesota and trips with family to Florida; riding motorcycle and going to local races with his dad and son; and attending a few NASCAR races. He thoroughly enjoyed annual snowmobile trips West with his dad and friends, when on one occasion his calm, patient demeanor and eagle eyes prevented the group from getting lost in the Wyoming mountains.
He especially enjoyed the spring and fall, planting and harvesting with his dad and uncle and just having the opportunity to be in a tractor or combine.
In recent years, he enjoyed working with his son, Wilson, as Wilson showed swine and cattle at shows around the state. Showing at the Cottonwood County Fair was always a big event for the two of them, as well as the State Fair. In 2024, they celebrated Wilson’s outstanding performance at the State Fair.
Jamey was a member of the Cottonwood Cattle Producers, serving on the board of directors for a number of years and as president for a term. He enjoyed grilling burgers with the organization for a variety of events, including the county fair.
He also was a member of Jeffers United Methodist Church where he and Wilson worked the sound and video booth during church services. While growing up in Windom, Jamey attended Windom Evangelical Free Church and was baptized at Cottonwood Lake in 2002.
Jamey enjoyed watching and occasionally attending Minnesota’s Twins, Vikings, Wild, Timberwolves and Lynx games, as well as NASCAR races.
Jamey passed away on July 18th, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart and patient demeanor, and the love he had for his son, Wilson.
He is survived by his son, Wilson Hochstein of Windom; father, Kevin Hochstein of rural Jeffers; mother, Donna (David) Fjeld of Windom; brother and sister, Tim Fjeld of Minneapolis and Mindy (Joshua) Dykstra of Sioux Falls; a niece, Emma Dykstra of Sioux Falls; his step-grandmother, Lila Fjeld of Sheldon, Iowa; and dog, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ray and Dorothy Hochstein; and Merlin and Rachel Hansen; and step-grandfather, Ralph Fjeld.
