James “Jim” Hamilton Simmons Jr. of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully at the age of 64 on June 15th 2025. He was born on October 23rd 1960 in Greenwood, Mississippi to James and Cathleen (Smith) Simmons.
To know “Jim” was to know light, laughter, and genuine connection. Intelligent and endlessly free-spirited, “Jim” had a gift that few possess – the ability to talk to anyone and make them feel like they’d known him forever. In his presence, no one was ever a stranger.
A proud Air Force veteran, “Jim” lived by the values he learned in service – P.R.I.D.E.: Pride, Responsibility, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence. These values weren’t just words to him – they were deeply rooted in the way he treated others, carried himself, and showed up for the world. His strong Christian faith guided his heart, and he walked through life with compassion, purpose, and humility.
Music was “Jim’s” soul language. Whether it was the smooth croon of Roy Orbison, the island rhythms of Bob Marley, or the soft sway of classic jazz, there was always a soundtrack to his days. He believed that every genre held beauty, and his playlists were as eclectic and vibrant as his personality.
“Jim” loved and always connected with the outdoors. Whether it be out gold panning, fly fishing, or tending to the backyard garden, “Jim’s” love for nature shined like the rims of his Dodge Ram 1500.
Above all, “Jim” loved his people. His friends were family, and his family were the pillars of his life. He showed up – wholeheartedly, unapologetically, and consistently. Whether it was a late-night conversation, a spontaneous camping trip, or just sharing a quiet moment, “Jim” made time for those he loved. And no one will forget Margarita Week, a tradition he created and carried with unmatched joy and spirit. It will never be the same without his laughter leading the way.
“Jim” is survived by his loving wife Amelia “Mally” Simmons; his brother David (Angie) Simmons; his sisters Cheryl (Tom) Powers and Donna (Ron) Kasaric; his aunt Charlotte Robertson; and many other loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father James Sr. and his mother Cathleen (Smith) Simmons.
