Helen Maggiore
- May 27, 2025

Helen Maggiore, 82 of Springfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. She was born on October 29, 1942, to William J. and Imogene Knoedler. Helen is survived by the love of her life, Richard Maggiore. They were married on June 18, 1966.
She is also survived by her sons, Dr. Todd A. (Theresa) Maggiore and Jeremy J. (Michelle) Maggiore, both of Springfield; grandchildren, Porter Maggiore and Isabella Maggiore; and sister Kathy (John) Hawkins of Buffalo, IL, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joseph Knoedler, and sister, Elizabeth Vouaux.
Helen graduated from Ursuline Academy and worked at Franklin Life before staying at home to raise her children. She later worked as a receptionist for Leonard Sapp. She was a faithful member of Christ the King Church, a dedicated member of the Junior Women’s League of Springfield, and a board member with Sparc.
Sis never met a stranger; it was impossible to attend any event without her running into friends from the past and adding a new friend or two from that day. She was genuinely interested in the lives of her friends and neighbors and had an uncanny ability to remember the details of every conversation. She was always the first one to reach out when someone was in need. As generous as she was with her time, she didn’t like asking for help herself. When she did, she was truly appreciative. She continued to bring Christmas gifts to the staff who helped take care of her mother for years after her passing. She and Rich also made hundreds of batches of toffee throughout the years as thank-you gifts.
As much as Helen cherished her friendships, her life revolved around her family. She married Rich in June of 1966, and they were inseparable over the next 58 years. They spent most of that time living in Sherwood subdivision, where they raised their sons, Todd and Jeremy. They spent the last 20 years doting on their two grandchildren, Porter and Isabella. They displayed endless amounts of energy building Legos and Playmobil, hosting stuffed animal birthday parties, coloring, and playing board games. There was nothing that made them more proud than the achievements of their children and grandchildren.
We are thankful for the time we had, but wish we could have had more. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. All our love, with a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.
There will be a visitation from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. A private burial be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ the King School and Simmons Cancer Institute.
