Today, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Carson City responders, supported by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Nevada State Police (NSP), are performing a full-scale evacuation exercise in coordination with the Lakeview residents.

The evacuation exercise operated from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Temporary Evacuation Point (TEP) Community Fair at the Carson City Community Gym, located at 851 E. William St., from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Carson City residents are invited to the community fair to learn from State and City departments, including utilities, insurance representatives, volunteer organizations, and local businesses. Free admission.

The full-scale evacuation exercise will have soft road closures below Combs Canyon near Western Nevada College (WNC) and Hobart Road off Old 395.

Deputy Emergency Manager Jon Bakkedahl said: “These exercises play an important role in helping our community prepare for an emergency. We will have fire engines, traffic controls, and other first responders assimilating the exercise of evacuating Lakeview to the temporary evacuation point where there will be the community fair, which is for all residents of Carson City to attend and learn what they can do to make our community safer.”

In addition to the full-scale exercise at Lakeview, other agencies are also getting ready for wildfires. On May 29, the Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators will conduct a large-scale drill that will affect the South Washoe Valley, Lakeview, and Combs Canyon areas. For more information about the Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators’ large-scale drill, please contact Adam Mayberry at amayberry@tmfpd.us or 775-326-6073.

If you have any concerns or questions about the evacuation exercise or community fair, don’t hesitate to contact the Carson City Fire Department at (775) 887-2210.
