Gerald Opgenorth

My love and partner in life for the past 60 years Gerald (Jerry) Opgenorth passed away on April 14th,2025. He got his wish of dying in his own bed and on his own beloved acres of land in Wyoming Valley.

He was born in Kewaskum, WI and grew up on a farm, as the youngest of four children. Growing up he attended a one room schoolhouse which he proudly showed to his grandchildren.

He graduated with a degree in Law from the University of Wisconsin where he also met me (his wife Hannelore) while I was working as an RN and taking care of a paraplegic colleague. He helped me maneuver the wheelchair in a rather unfriendly Wisconsin winter.

It was on a trip to Germany that he fell in love with a red Porsche Targa . Broke as we were we went to the nearest Gasthaus to think about it purchasing it and after a few beers it seemed a great idea . He loved to tell the story of how he purchased the car, brought it to America, and even drove it all the way to the Rose Bowl. The Porsche was truly beloved and is still parked in our garage to this day.

He became a partner at a law firm in Madison, WI and after 20 years of working there moved to Cleveland Ohio to work with a medical malpractice insurance company.

During this time we had adopted two boys which added a new and permanent challenge to life. His remaining years were spent working in law, and working on his land with all kinds of outdated tools while enjoying life.

He is survived by his wife, their two children and their families with many additional relatives in Germany.

Memorials may be sent to the Wyoming Valley School (6306 State Rd 23 Spring Green Wi 53588) where he was president for many years and held close to his heart.

Online condolences available at www.staffordfuneralhomes.com The Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
