Evelyn Singley

Evelyn Christine Singley (née Sweeney), a lifelong resident of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the age of 95.

Born on July 13, 1929, Evelyn was the beloved daughter of the late James and Leonore Sweeney and the cherished sister of the late Alfred Sweeney and George Sweeney. She spent her life in New Haven, where she built a home rooted in love, resilience, and determination, along with her beloved husband Robert Andrew Singley, until his passing in January 1988.  

Evelyn dedicated over 30 years of service to SNET. Outside of work, she found joy in the kitchen, where she was known for her unforgettable apple pies. She kept her mind sharp by working through crossword puzzles daily.  She also enjoyed knitting, bingo, planting, and her special Koala Bears.  

Evelyn was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church serving with the Antillean Society and singing in the choir.   

She is survived by her loving son, Stephen Singley; and devoted daughter-in-law, Lynne Singley. She was a grandmother to Ashley Singley and Alden Singley; a cherished “bonus” grandmother to Michael, Elyse, Maddie, and Santino; great-grandmother to Grace and Jeremiah; and aunt to Karen and Leonora.

Evelyn will be remembered for her strong spirit and remarkable resilience.

She will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511.  Services and interment will be private.
