Eleanore Weiss McCaffery passed away peacefully at the Wartburg Home in Mount Vernon, New York on July 1, a few days before her 94th Birthday. Her parent were Henry and Gertrude Weiss who lived on Carpenter Avenue in the Bronx prior to their family move to Mamaroneck in the 1950’s.

Eleanore graduated from Evander Childs High School in The Bronx. She worked at Commercial Union Insurance Company in lower Manhattan as an Executive Secretary for many years up until her retirement. She was predeceased by her parents and husband John McCaffery. Eleanore was a very active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church In Mamaroneck where she taught Sunday School to any children. She was also a member of The Mamaroneck Women’s Club.

She Is survived by her niece Kathy Muller-Schertier and her husband Rupert of Markt-Schwaben, Germany. Her niece Karen Muller-Reynolds of Hoover, Alabama pre-deceased Eleanore; Karen’s husband Bill survives. She is also survived by her Godson, Robert Meyer, his sisters Susan and Lisa and his wife Lynn and family of Ridgefield, Connecticut.

The LaRocco family, her Mamaroneck neighbors, were also family and friend, Terry LaRocco-Badalamente took very special care of Eleanore’s needs in her later years. Everyone who met Eleanore would find out that she was a one-of-a-kind special person, full of positive happy energy. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, or to a charity that has meaning to you.

To honor Eleanore’s life, family and friends will gather Monday, July 7 from 10:00am-11:00am at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY, with a prayer service starting at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY.
