NORTH BROOKFIELD- Edmund Joseph Decoteau, 101, of North Brookfield, passed away of natural causes surrounded by family members during the early morning of Friday, June 27,2025.

Son of Lillian Lemay Freeman and Hermanigild (Mitch) Decoteau, Edmund Joseph Decoteau was born on June 11, 1924 in Wheelwright, Massachusetts. He was educated in the Barre school system before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1943. He served in the 447th Bomb Group in England and Germany until 1946. Ed worked as Maintenance Supervisor for Harrington Richardson, Worcester, Massachusetts for 18 years and in real estate management in his senior years. He was a passionate gardener, international traveler, and avid hunter into his nineties.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Association, and Christian Family Movement. Ed was a charter member of the S.W.C. Landlord’s Association and was also a charter member of the St. Joseph’s Church Bereavement Committee which he served faithfully for 23 years; he was a daily communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and was a member of its Parish Council.

Ed Decoteau is survived by two brothers, John Decoteau of Leicester and Mitchell Decoteau of Yellville, AK. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jean Marie (Baltrus) Decoteau; a sister Dorothy Blake and his brothers Raymond Decoteau, Dr. Alfred Decoteau, Richard Freeman, and Albert Freeman. He leaves six children, Randall Decoteau of Warren, Susan Decoteau Farris of Danville, KY, Nancy Johndrow of North Brookfield, Gary Decoteau of North Brookfield, Carol Gannon of North Brookfield, and Denise Decoteau of North Brookfield along with three adopted children Darlene Dowgielewicz of New Braintree, Darlene Lavin of North Brookfield, and Rob Haynes of New Braintree. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral for Ed will be held on Wednesday, July 2,2025 at 11:00AM in St Joseph’s Church 296 N. Main St North Brookfield. A calling hour will be held from 9:30-10:30AM prior to the Mass in Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert St North Brookfield. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
