Douglas Bannon

Douglas William Bannon, 89, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully on May 7,2025 surrounded by family. Born on April 18, 1936 in Springfield, MA, he was the youngest son of Clair and Agnes Bannon.

 He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katharine Bannon; his daughters Elizabeth (Richard) Scargill and Jessica Vanto; his grandchildren Ian, Sarah, Andrew and Emily Scargill and Reid Vanto, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. He is predeceased by his brother, Paul Bannon, and sisters, Jane Bate and Carolyn Flynn.

Douglas received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Master of Electrical Engineering from NYU. He worked for IBM for 29 years.

While at UMass, Doug competed on the men’s swim team. He passed on his love of the sport to his daughters and granddaughters.

In his free time, Doug was an avid golfer. He was very proud of hitting a hole in one! Many special memories were made on family vacations over the years.

Doug enjoyed doing volunteer work, whether at St. Martin de Porres, Meals on Wheels or coaching swimming.

Visitation is from 1-3pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at William Miller Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY, with final blessings offered at 3pm.

Douglas will be remembered for his kind spirit, quiet strength, and deep love for his family.
