Damiano Care

Damiano Care, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025.

He was born in Fabrizia, Italy, and immigrated to America in 1972. Damiano is survived by his

wife, Luigina; his daughters, Rosa, Franca, and Cecilia; his grandchildren, George, Alexandra,

and Emma; and his sons-in-law, Paris, Mark, and Michael. He is also lovingly remembered by

his many nieces and nephews.

Damiano enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, and nothing made him happier than being

surrounded by his family at the dinner table, sipping a glass (or two) of his homemade vino,

sitting outside in his favorite chair, and enjoying the company of all who visited. Damiano never

met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile.

Damiano’s passion was his fruit and vegetable garden, which he lovingly tended for decades.

Early to rise, he began his day harvesting figs and peaches along with a wide variety of

vegetables, which he shared generously with friends and neighbors.

He was blessed to be married to his wife, whom he adored, for 61 years. Always mindful of

special days, he loved to gift her flowers and chocolates and shower her with affection. Damiano

was a loving and caring father who supported his daughters and sons-in-law in every decision

they made and delighted in their success and happiness. His grandchildren brought him endless

joy; his eyes would light up with pride and warmth each time they came through the door. He

cherished giving and receiving laughter; his belly laugh was as comforting as it was contagious.

That laughter, the kind that made everyone feel at home, will be deeply missed by all who knew

him.

Never boastful, Damiano was a reserved man of few words, but he was a great listener who

could be counted on for gentle words of wisdom. Always ready to lend a helping hand to family,

friends, and strangers alike, Damiano had the physical strength of a man who worked hard all his

life, including over twenty-five years with the New Rochelle Water Company. There, he became

a respected legend, known for his work ethic, humility, reliability, and the kind of strength that

came not just from muscle, but from character.

At home, he helped countless motorists whose cars were stuck in the snow, pushing their

vehicles up the hill on his street at all hours. He gladly shoveled sidewalks and mowed lawns for

friends and neighbors. If you needed a tree cut or a large shrub dug up, he would take care of it

with ease, carrying the wood as if it were a paperweight.

Damiano lived modestly, with no desire for material things. His home was his castle.

If wealth were measured in love, generosity, and kindness, then Damiano was truly one of the

richest men to ever live.
