Ellsworth and East Millinocket, Maine – Cordelia I. Cook (York), 99, was born on December 10, 1925, in Medway, ME, to Hattie (O’Donal) and Rodney E. York. On Sunday, June 15, 2025, Cordelia passed from this life on earth to life eternal with her Lord and Savior.
Delie, as she liked to be called, met the love of her life Norman Cook in Portland, Maine where both Delie and Norman were employed in a factory fabricating airplane parts in support of the war efforts. Delie and Norman were married in 1945 in East Millinocket, Maine. After World War II Delie and Norman established their home in East Millinocket where they raised their family. Delie’s greatest pleasure was spending time with family. Delie enjoyed reading her Bible crocheting, playing board games and puzzles.
Delie and Norman made their home in Skowhegan after retirement to be closer to their camp on Pleasant Pond in Caratunk, where they relaxed enjoying time with family and friends.
Delie is survived by two daughters, Norma Cook of Ellsworth and Rae Elaine Batchelder and her husband, Paul of Anderson, IN, a son, Ernest and his wife Cheryl of Madison, NH, two grandsons, Shawn Cook and his wife, Kerstin; Kevin Batchelder and his wife, Heather; and three granddaughters, Bethany Hoffman and her husband Matthew; Michelle Cook and Heather Cook; fourteen great grandchildren, Madyson, Logan, Laurel, Autumn, Tanner, Abigail, Zane, Gavin, Nathan, Emma, Connor, Shelby, Hannah and Caleb. Two sisters, Wilda Grinslade and Priscilla York and one brother Marshall York and sister-in-laws Carolyn York and Ruth McDougall, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Delie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Norman, a son John Cook, sister, Elsie, brothers, Guy, Rodney and Enoch and her parents-in-law Victor and Leona Cook.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers and staff of Northern Light Maine Coastal for their dedication and care for Delie during her recent illness.
A graveside service will be held at the East Millinocket Cemetery on Saturday, June 21, at 1:00 p.m. Gifts in memory of Cordelia may be sent to Calvary Temple AG, 2 Orchard Street, East Millinocket, ME 04430, or to a charity of one’s choice.
