Controlled burn exercises happening Sunday through Friday in Carson City
Carson Now Reader Lisa Yates submitted these photos, which, according to Carson City dispatch, is a controlled burn happening today, Sunday, in the area of 5th and Roop Street in Carson City. It is being done by the Carson City Fire Department.
According to CCFD, the State Public Works Division, in partnership with the Carson City Fire Department, announced the planned demolition of the Northern Nevada Children’s Home cottages. This effort started on May 28 and is expected to be completed by Oct. 24.
The live-fire training exercises are scheduled from Sunday, Sept. 7 through Sept. 12.
The fire training allows first responders to practice real-life emergency scenarios in a safe, controlled environment.
The air quality during this period will be monitored through the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP), and all necessary precautions have been taken to minimize environmental and public health impacts.
The State conducted a remembrance ceremony on August 27, 2025, as a tribute to the countless lives that were impacted by the Northern Nevada Children’s Home Cottages.
