Community rallies again for twins Mack and Mila: ‘Inches for Intensives’ aims to raise $13K by July 13

In December, the Northern Nevada and Carson City community came together in a powerful show of love and support for newborn twins Mack and Mila, helping their family cover overwhelming NICU and medical expenses during a difficult and uncertain start to life.

At that time, the family was still waiting for answers. Since then, they’ve received a formal diagnosis that has brought clarity and a new set of challenges.

Mack and Mila have a rare neuromuscular and metabolic condition that makes everyday milestones incredibly difficult to reach. Sitting, crawling, eating, and playing take an extraordinary amount of effort, but with the help of intensive physical therapy, both twins are making meaningful strides every day.

Doctors at UCSF have recommended that each child attend 4 to 6 intensive therapy programs per year, with each program costing up to $4,000 per child. These multi-week intensives offer specialized, high-impact physical therapy that helps build coordination, strength, and independence.

To help fund their next three sessions each, loved ones have launched:

The goal is to raise $13,000 to send both Mack and Mila to three more physical therapy intensives this year — therapy that has proven essential for their progress.

“These sessions are helping them inch toward things that come naturally to most kids,” says a friend leading the fundraiser. “Mack and Mila are making incredible progress, and we want to help them keep moving forward.”

Their mom, Alyssa, reflects on a moment that shifted her perspective:

“A doctor once described them as ‘social and curious, just trapped in their little bodies.’ When they said that, something shifted. I stopped mourning what we were missing and started focusing on everything they are — hilarious, stubborn, and so full of life. One day their world won’t revolve around daily therapy appointments, but for now, we’ll do whatever it takes to give them the tools to explore it.”

Their parents, Alyssa and Tony, have never stopped advocating, hoping, and showing up for their children, no matter how hard the road. And they’ve never walked it alone.

Alyssa was a former Carson City School District kindergarten teacher for eight years before leaving her job to take care of her twins. The family currently resides in Reno.

To thank the community, every donation comes with a limited-edition “Rare & Resilient” Mack and Mila sticker.

How to Help

This is a new chapter, but not a new story. It’s the same fight, the same hope, and the same brave family. And now, we get to help write the next chapter, inch by inch.
