Chris Debey
Chris Lee DeBey, age 74 of Windsor, Colorado passed away Sunday October 26th 2025 at Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He was surrounded by family.
Chris was born on July 23rd, 1951 in Greeley, Colorado to the late Emma and Cecil DeBey. He loved spending time with family, especially playing cards and eating. Chris loved a road trip and would get in the car at a moment’s notice and drive across the country to visit family or friends. Chris was a huge Broncos Fan and was always watching and rooting for them if they were playing. Chris loved his kids more than anything in the world and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. His favorite thing was to have them all together with him. Chris always had a smile on his face and made others smile, no matter what he was going through.
Chris had a successful double lung transplant in the spring of 2020, to combat his terminal COPD diagnosis. He was able to live and breathe freely for 5 years, riding his bicycle, spending time with family, and sponsoring, chairing and attending meetings at his local AA groups, of which he had 46 years of sobriety.
Chris served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an original crewman of the USS Shasta and worked in the engine control room of the ship. The USS Shasta was responsible for resupplying ammunition to the rest of the US fleet. He enlisted on September 27th, 1971 and was honorably discharged September 26th, 1977.
He was a truck driver for most of his career, delivering mainly oxygen to local and regional health care centers. He retired in 2018.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Cecil DeBey and brother, Tom DeBey.
He is survived by his daughter, Christi Basden (Jason); daughter, Samantha Wright (Rob); son Wyatt DeBey (Amber); brother, Hank DeBey (Marie Noelle); sister, Ann Heardt (Tom) ; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service for Chris will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00PM at First United Methodist Church in Windsor, Colorado, where Chris was a long-time member. The address is 503 Walnut Street, Windsor CO 80550.
