By CCSO Sgt. Nathan Brehm — The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the addition of two new K9 handlers and their K9 partners to the department’s K9 unit. This expansion enhances the department’s ability to support patrol operations, tracking, and narcotics detection throughout Carson City and surrounding areas.

Deputy Michael Jerauld and Deputy Jaime Carillo have successfully completed an intensive handler training program and are officially assigned to the K9 unit. Each deputy has been paired with a highly trained canine partner:

  • K9 Bery, a 1-year-old Belgian Malinois, has been partnered with Deputy Jerauld. K9 Bery is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and patrol operations.
  • K9 Dakota, a 1 and a half-year-old Belgian Malinois, has been partnered with Deputy Carillo. K9 Dakota is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and patrol operations.

We are thrilled to welcome Deputies Jerauld and Carillo and their canine partners to the team. This addition brings our K9 unit up to 8 handlers and 8 K9s, covering day shift, swing shift, and graveyard. Our K9 unit plays a vital role in protecting the Carson community and supporting our deputies in the field. These additions will strengthen our department’s capabilities and help us continue to provide the highest level of service to Carson City residents.

The new teams will immediately begin patrol duties and participate in community outreach events, demonstrations, and continued training to ensure peak performance in real-world scenarios. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office remains committed to proactive policing and community engagement, and the K9 unit is a key part of that mission.
