By Elinor Bugli — The Jazz & Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2025 poster, program cover, and T-shirt art contest is Katelyn Lehmann. Her design, “Sights and Sounds,” was selected from four entries to highlight the 22nd annual Carson City music festival.
Katelyn Lehmann is a northern Nevada graphic designer. This is her second win in the Jazz and Beyond poster contest; she also won in 2021. Her goal is to make art that people will appreciate.
The original artworks submitted for the contest are individually valued at $150 to $800 and feature different designs in digital, acrylic, and mixed media. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at each concert, and the winning tickets will be drawn at the closing concert on August 24. The winners need not be present.
The Jazz & Beyond festival will feature twenty-five free concerts at Carson City venues. Opening on Friday, August 15, outdoors at the Governor’s Mansion, we welcome the Reno Jazz Orchestra, led by its exciting music director and arranger, Dr. Greg Johnson. This concert is a perfect kick-off for the festival.
The country-themed Day at the Silver Saddle Ranch with music, cowboy poetry, and mule rides will be on Sunday, August 17. Never forgetting Count Basie’s birthday – the 121st – the Mile High Jazz Band will perform on Thursday, August 21, at McFadden Plaza Stage. Lucky Diamond and the Incontinentals and Cherie and John Shipley’s Take This play on August 22 at the Bliss Mansion; and the festival will close with the dynamic 6-piece Latin-jazz ensemble, No Comprende, on Sunday, August 24.
The full schedule of events on the websites JazzCarsonCity.com and Milehighjazz.com will be updated frequently. Annual Jazz & Beyond Festivals are presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and are supported by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, the Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and by private donations.
