Bert Benne

Bert Benne, age 58, formally of Stratford passed away, Monday, September 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Bert was born September 9, 1967, in Bridgeport, son of the late Bert and Carol (Kolesar) Benne and had been a lifelong area resident.

He retired from the state of Connecticut, Ella Grasso Center as a supervisor, patient services, after 29 years. Bert will be deeply missed for his remarkable compassion and unwavering sense of humor, his passion for music, particularly the Grateful Dead. He was a lifelong sports fan of the New York Yankees as well as the New York Giants and loved the outdoors and being surrounded by nature. As a fun-loving and caring individual, Bert’s presence had a profound impact on everyone he knew, especially the clients.

He is survived by his son, Jalen Benne; stepsons, Perquon and Bennie; three sisters, Susan, Mary and her partner Kevin, and Barbara and her husband Jim, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; his best buddies, Tori and Micheal as well of a host of cousins.

Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint John’s Cemetery, 2610 Nichols Avenue, Stratford.
