Gerald M. Gorrin, known affectionately as Jerry to his friends and loved ones, passed away on the 20th of September, 2025, at the age of 100, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born on July 30, 1925, in Newark, New Jersey, Jerry lived a century filled with accomplishment, service, and joy.

Jerry’s early life in Newark laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. Excelling both academically and athletically, he earned a football scholarship to attend Rutgers College, where his leadership on and off the field was evident to all who knew him. His pursuit of excellence continued as he graduated from George Washington University Law School, a testament to his determination and intellectual prowess.

For 40 years, Jerry dedicated his life to the practice of law, establishing himself as a respected figure in the legal community. His commitment to justice and fairness was unparalleled, as was his expertise in the field. His peers recognized his contributions by electing him President of the New Jersey Defense Lawyers Association. Jerry’s legal acumen was further acknowledged by his membership in the American Arbitration Association and the prestigious AV rating he received from Martindale-Hubbell, marking him as a lawyer with the highest ethical standards and professional ability.

Jerry’s life was a reflection of his deep commitment to his faith. As a proud member of Temple Beth Israel Congregation in Livingston NJ, he lived his life guided by the principles of kindness, charity, and a commitment to justice. His faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life, and it shaped the way he interacted with the world around him.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry was a man of many interests and talents. He found joy on the golf course, where he spent many a sunny morning perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golfers. His artistic side was expressed through painting, an activity through which he captured the beauty of the world as he saw it. Model ship building was another of Jerry’s passions, requiring patience and precision, qualities that he exhibited in every aspect of his life.

Traveling the world with his family was one of Jerry’s most cherished activities. These journeys allowed him to indulge his curiosity and appreciation for different cultures and landscapes, creating lasting memories with those he loved most. He believed in the value of shared experiences and the bonds they forged.

One of Jerry’s favorite daily rituals was enjoying late afternoon cocktails with family and friends. This was a time for laughter, storytelling, and reflection—a time when the warmth of the setting sun was matched only by the warmth of the company he kept.

Jerry’s life was woven with threads of dedication, love, and community. His legacy is one of a life well-lived, full of moments that brought joy and fulfillment not only to himself but to everyone he encountered. Jerry’s life has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as his presence enriched our lives.

Friends and Family as well as his beloved 2 Westies, Spike and Kiki, celebrated his centennial birthday two months ago. The landmark event was honored with 3 separate parties which Jerry thoroughly enjoyed.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 75 years, Shirley (nee Briller), son Jeffrey and his wife Ericka, Daughter Elizabeth Dardes, and Granddaughter Abigail. Preceeded in death by his daughter in law Susan and son in law Kenneth.
