Antonio (Tony) Ruiz, 85, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, in Chicago, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 1, 1940, in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, to Domingo and Felicita (née Roldan) Ruiz, Tony came to Chicago in the late 1950s as part of Operation Bootstrap. He built a long and fulfilling life here, beginning his career as a landscaper on the North Shore. His first retirement was at age 65 from a tool & die company where he worked as a machinist. He then went on to work as a janitor at Josephinum High School retiring at the age of 80.
In 1962, he married Regalada (née Gonzalez), and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage this past March. A man of many passions, Tony was an enthusiastic bowler, an avid pool player, and enjoyed lively games of dominoes with friends and family. He was a lifelong fan of trio music, loved playing the guitar, and a dedicated supporter of the Chicago White Sox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Domingo and Felecita Ruiz; his sister, Paula Gonzalez; and his grandson, Matthew Montes. Tony’s memory will be cherished by his beloved wife, Regalada; his children, Antonio Ruiz Jr. (Miriam), Heriberto Ruiz (Blanca), Geraldo Ruiz (Sandra), Wanda Montes (Rigo), Alfredo Ruiz (Melissa), and Linette Guerra (Alfredo); and his 11 grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation for Antonio will be held on Wednesday, September 10th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Casey and Rios Funeral Home, 4540 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL 60639. Prayers will begin on Thursday, September 11th, 9:30 am from the funeral home proceeding to St. Aloysius Church, 2300 W. LeMoyne Ave., Chicago, IL for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery located in Hillside, IL.
