Richard Henry Valentine

Richard H. Valentine, 92, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 in his home following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Henry and Genevieve (Pimpedly) Valentine and was an honorably discharged veteran having served in the United States Navy. Following his discharge, Richard began his career as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service at New Philadelphia and retired after 30 years of faithful service. He had formerly attended Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia and in his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Richard is survived by his wife, Treva M. (Ford) Valentine, whom he married on January 27, 1951 and together, they celebrated over 70 years of marriage before his passing. Also surviving are three daughters, Tonya (Daniel) Jenkins, Chris Sulzener and Lisa (Howard) Burgess, all of New Philadelphia; two sons, Richard (Barbara) Valentine of New Philadelphia and Steve (Lynn) Valentine of Dover; a sister, Terry (Carl) Dietz of Midvale; 13 Grandchildren and 25 Great-Grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Terry Sulzener; his great-granddaughter, Danae Russell; a sister, Eileen Jaskiewicz and a brother, Daniel Valentine.
Private family services are to be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia, where his grandson, Rev. Mitchell Valentine will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military honors.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
