Sergio Gilberto Garcia, a cherished and spirited soul, departed from this world on July 8, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on September 9, 1938, in the vibrant city of Cárdenas, Cuba, Sergio was a man whose life was marked by his loving nature and friendly demeanor. He passed away peacefully due to natural causes in Chicago, Illinois, surrounded by the love of his family.
Sergio, known affectionately by his nieces and nephews as Gilberto, was a devout Catholic who lived his faith through his actions and the kindness he bestowed upon others. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Elizabeth Garcia (nee Stamatakos), who preceded him in death in 1985, and a loving companion to Angela Infante, who also preceded him in 2023.
Sergio was a dedicated father to his children,
Anthony Garcia, married to Jennifer Garcia (nee Green);
Tonya Garcia with her children, Stephanie Beeman and James Halama;
Ricardo Garcia, married to Kimberly Garcia (nee Salvinski), with whom he shared the delight of his grandchild Alyssa Garcia, engaged to Andrew Kimball
Angela Regan (nee Garcia), married to John Regan, whose children, Adam Miramontez and Alexandria Miramontez, were cherished by Sergio.
He also held a special place in his heart for his stepson, Mark Siviero, his fiancée Karen Miller, and his children Gio and Carlo Siviero.
Sergio’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Monica Garcia, Madison Nemenski, and Meadow Kimball, all of whom he adored.
Sergio’s professional life was spent as a butcher with Cubanacan Grocery, where his amiable nature and expert skills were well-known and appreciated by his colleagues and customers alike. He was a man of many interests, including a passion for collecting coins, watches, jewelry, stamps, and figurines. His joy was evident on the weekends as he engaged with the community at local flea markets, sharing stories and laughter with those he met.
Those who knew Sergio will remember him as a man who was not only loving but also spirited and friendly. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and his presence brought warmth and light to any gathering. Sergio’s love for life and the people around him was infectious, and he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
We take solace in the fact that Sergio is now resting in the eternal love of our Lord, and we are comforted by the memories of his generous spirit, his unwavering faith, and his boundless love. Sergio Gilberto Garcia’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring nature of faith. As we bid him farewell, we hold onto the love he shared and the lessons he taught us, knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us in the days to come.
