William Lee Boysen Sr.
William L. Boysen, Sr., better known as Bill Boysen was born May 12th, 1938 and returned to his heavenly home on September 24th, 2022. Bill’s hometown was Brownwood, Texas as was his parents, Jess and Edna Boysen, and grandparents, B.S. and Catherine Boysen, who preceded him in their death. His grandfather, B.S. Boysen owned the first Power & Light Company in Brownwood and his biography is included in the Cattle History of Texas to1895 as one of the early Texas Ranchers.
Bill graduated from Brownwood High School in 1957. He was Texas State Golf Medalist that year and received and accepted a full scholarship to The University of Houston. Bill also lettered in Track and Field, baseball, and football. Bill served as a golf professional at Oak Hills Country Club, and Glen Lakes Country Club before joining the PGA Tour. After returning from the tour, he owned an insurance agency in Hurst, Texas. There he was Vice President of the Lions Club and played and sponsored a men’s baseball team.. In 1973, he accepted the position as Head Golf Professional and Athletic Director before Pecan Plantation opened. He worked with Bob Leonard & Fred McMeans on finishing the design and construction of the Pecan Plantation Golf Course, designed by Lelan Howard.
Bill coached little league baseball, served as a referee for the Women’s Softball League in Granbury along with sponsoring golf clinics for boys and girls. Bill and his wife, Linda were CASA Advocates, and worked as volunteers with Christian Womens’ Job Corp, and Training Forward. He and his wife were members of Stonewater Church and belonged to a Stonewater Journey Group at Pecan Plantation and surrounding area.
Bill’s journey home was very tumultuous. He had his pancreas removed in 1998 at Texas Health Hospital, downtown Ft. Worth. He suffered many associated physical complications associated with the removal of his pancreas. These illnesses culminated in Bill contracting COVID in 2019
before vaccinations were available. He spent 33 days in Lake Granbury Medical Center , Covid ICU, on a ventilator and in an induced coma at age 82 with many comorbid conditions. Family and friends prayed, nurses and physicians treated, and God healed.
Bill would want and family certainly want to give a special thanks to those who helped to lighten his suffering and support his family during this painful journey home. Those include: Linda Traylor Chissum and Dr. Phillip Lobstein, lifelong friends and the other surviving members of his high school graduation class in Brownwood. His PCP, Dr. Michael Davis and Dr. Karen Burroughs ,who managed his care when Bill could no longer make in person doctor visits.

His beloved cousin, Dr. Walter Buell and wife Elizabeth, James Marcum, pastor at Stonewater Church. Devera Elli, RN, & dear friend. Charlotte Van Zante, neighbor and friend for over 40 years. The doctors, nurses and staff at Lake Granbury Medical Center with a special thanks to Dr. Bump and his wife, Dr. Bates, who not only cared for him during his stay at Lake Granbury Medical Center, but in subsequent many stays in Harris Southwest Hospital and to Dr. Trey Moore his urologist. The VA and specifically the VA outpatient in Granbury.
Bill is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Linda Boysen. His devoted children and their spouses: Jane and Lelan Chiles and their twin daughters, Lyndee and Landree of DeCordova Bend; William Lee Boysen, Jr. and his wife, Natalie and their children William Lee Boysen, III, and Ryder Boysen of Trophy Club; and Linda and Logan Baker of Ft. Worth, and DeCordova Bend. His great grandchild of his heart, Rowdy Blackmon; and Sophie Boysen, his beloved dog. His siblings, John Dysert and spouse, Roxanne of Federal Way, Wash., Patti Blackshire, Castle Rock, CO., and Katherine Atkinson of Midvale, Utah. His brother, Kenny Boysen, who preceded him in death, and his beloved brother-in-law and wife, Dr. John Scarbrough of Ridgefield, Ct. and nephews and nieces. Bill and his brothers were all veterans, Bill and his brother John of the Navy; and brother Kenny, of the Marines.
A private interment ceremony was held at Acton Cemetery. A public “Celebration of Life” will be held at Stonewater Church on Saturday, 2:00 PM, October 15th, 2022.
