William L. Tomer

William L. Tomer, age 78, of Bolivar, died Friday, September 16, 2022, while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born was born in Union Hospital at Dover on July 22 1944, and was a son of the late William A. Tomer and Ruth Mae Middaugh Tomer Smitley.
At a young age, Bill began working alongside his father in his Parral area shop where he learned to be a mechanic. That time led to a longtime career as not only a mechanic but as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for O.D.O.T District 11 for many years and ultimately retired as the head mechanic of the seven-county area.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed working on Cushman Scooters and at one time enjoyed a collection of them. He and his wife traveled to various Cushman Meets through the years and spent time with other Cushman hobbyists. He also loved working in his yard and spending time in his garage surrounded by his friends sharing laughs and stories.
Bill is survived by his wife, the former Terry Bigler; his daughter, Brenda (Bob) Ross of Coshocton; three grandchildren, Andrew, Rachel, and Amanda and 14 great-grandchildren. Completing the family are his sisters, Janet Phillips, Pamela Beans, and Taffy Jo Warstler, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father and mother, Bill was preceded in death by his stepfather, Louis Smitley, and a brother, Rod Smitley.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover is handling cremation care.
The family requests memorial contributions in Bill’s name be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue, SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
