Vito Saputo, Jr.

Vito Saputo, Jr., 92, of Springfield, IL, died on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Springfield Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 17, 1929 in Springfield to Vito and Rose Calandrino Saputo.  He married Beverly Lawrence on July 22, 1961.

After graduating from Lanphier High School, he joined the Army.  He lived an extraordinary life, traveled the country, worked hard, and had unwavering pride for his family.  He loved animals, music, playing the piano, tinkering in his garage, exercising, and enjoying life on Lake Springfield.  Vito had enough entertaining stories and valuable lessons for multiple lifetimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deena Saputo; brothers, Russell, Frank and Joe Saputo; and sisters, Katie Zeppetella, Stella Murrill and Vita Summers.

Survivors include wife, Beverly; children, Vito (Cynthia) Saputo, Melinda (Donny) O’Connor and Tony Saputo; grandson, Dr. Blake O’Connor; and many nieces and nephews.

Private family services were held.  Cremation has been accorded by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
