Virgle LeRoy Van Amburg, 83, of Norwalk IA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids followed by a memorial service with burial to follow.

Virgle was born in Long Beach, California on June 30, 1939. He later moved to Iowa and attended Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. In 1957, he joined the Air Force and served for 4 years. He married Bettie on Dec. 30th, 1967. They were married for 54 years before she passed in Apr. 2022.

He had a long career of installing telephone equipment for Northwestern Bell/AT&T/ Lucent Technologies. He traveled often for work and provided for his family well.

He enjoyed traveling with Bettie after retirement as well as relaxing at home while watching old western movies. He loved telling stories about his travels and all their adventures together. He also loved to watch his granddaughters grow up and he was proud of each of them. We will miss his voice and his strong, steady spirit.

Virgle is survived by his son, David (Kathy) Van Amburg of Norwalk IA; a sister, Marlena DeHart of Marion, IA; and 3 grandchildren, Hailey (Joe) Martin, Samantha (Kolten) Schnoor, and Sarah Van Amburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Bernice; a son, Philip Van Amburg; a brother, Tom Van Amburg; and his wife, Bettie.
