Vernon “Gaylan” Gregory

Vernon “Gaylan” Gregory

Gaylan and his younger sister (Floy Jean, deceased) were raised by their mother, Christine Garrett Pester, in a wonderful Christian home.  Church attendance at Poly Baptist Church was usually 3 times a week.

Gaylan graduated Poly High School in 1956. After spending time in the Navy, he then worked for Goodyear Tire for 22 years.  Afterwards, Gaylan and his children owned and operated 4 Goodyear stores.  He sold the last store in 2001 and retired after 22 years in business.

Gaylan was a charter member of Pecan Baptist Church in Granbury and became one of the first Trustees as well as a greeter to all. Until physical limitations caused him to quit, he was an avid golfer and won the Ft. Worth Senior Championship as well as the Diamond Oaks Country Club Senior Championship twice.

Gaylan is survived by his wife of 17 years, Mary Frances Gregory and his beloved, faithful dog, Bruiser.  He is also survived by 6 children, 3 step-children,  22 grandchildren (known as “Pops”), 27 great grandchildren (known as ‘Ol Pops”), many, many friends from Church,  through Goodyear, the golf course, the 19th hole, Mexico, Pecan Plantation and the mid-cities.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 26th at 11:00 am at Pecan Baptist Church,  7178 Fall Creek Hwy. Granbury, TX 76053

In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Pecan Baptist Church Building Fund,  Granbury, Texas.
