Thomas “Tom” C. Markley Pollard, 76, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at his home. The family will greet friends from 12 – 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion, where a Funeral Service will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion, with full military honors accorded by the Marion American Legion and Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail.

Tom was born on April 12, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Thomas J. and Betty (Nichols) Markley. He was raised by his adoptive parents, Joseph Clayton and Beulah Mae (Woods) Pollard. He was a graduate of Osceola High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On May 1, 1976, Tom was united in marriage to Suzanne Lynn Ellwood in Marion. He worked construction with Local Union #43 for many years and then for Linn-Mar School District as a custodian for 10 years before his retirement. Tom enjoyed following Iowa Women’s Basketball, camping, watching Western movies, Elvis’s music, and all things cars. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts. Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Melissa (Tim) Lewis, Stacie Barske (fiancé, Jeff Hartwig), and Dustin Pollard, all of Marion; four grandchildren, Allison and Hailey Lewis, and Kayla and Peyton Barske; his companion and loving caregiver, Jan Thein; brother, Steve (Debbie) Pollard; sister, Patty Dothager; and brother-in-law, Jay (Mary) Ellwood.

He was preceded in death by his birth parents; adoptive parents; wife, Suzanne Pollard; sister, Beverly Dixon; and three brothers, Ronald Pollard, Raymond Pollard, and Ronald Wright.
